Daticum Participates in the European Parliament Roundtable Dedicated to the Future of Cloud Services

Bulgarian Data centre Daticum JSC, a leading provider of cloud services, has attended a round table in the European Parliament..The event was organized a week ago, by the recently formed organization of European providers of cloud infrastructure (Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers operating in Europe – CISPE), and was kindly hosted by MEP Eva Paunova.

The company is part of Sirma Group, specialized in providing of cloud IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) solutions, building a private cloud infrastructure, desktop virtualization (VDI), building recovery solutions Disaster Management (Disaster Recovery), system integration and maintenance.

Besides Daticum, the event was attended by some of Europe’s leading providers of cloud infrastructure from over 11 countries such as Amazon Web Services (USA), OVH (France), Aruba (Italy), Hetzner Online (Germany), Ikoula (France), UK Cloud (UK), Outscale (France), United Internet (Germany) and others, as well as representatives of the European Commission.

The adoption of a Code of Conduct developed by CISPE  has been discussed during the debate, as well as its positive impact on the European cloud infrastructure market. The act gives consumers assurance that providers of cloud infrastructure do not abuse their data for personal use, for any other purpose as resale to third parties for marketing, profiling or other unsolicited activities.

The Code precedes the adoption of new and more stringent EU directive on data protection, which is expected to come into force in May 2018. It also builds an international standard to protect data security for all customers of cloud infrastructure. According to the Code, the providers of the cloud infrastructure are obliged to offer capacity for processing and storage of customer data solely within the European Union.

“We had a fruitful discussion with the representatives of the European Commission, directly involved in the development of the new EU directive on the protection of personal data. We have clarified what would be the positive effect on the entire industry, when adopting a similar Code of Conduct from the leading European companies. We also have elaborated the distinction between cloud infrastructure (IaaS) as a way of storing and processing customer data and other types of cloud services such as software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and their subdivisions. “, commented Georgi Tsekov, commercial director of Daticum JSC.

CISPE is a trade association that gives a voice to cloud infrastructure providers at European level. The organization is dedicated to representing the interests and advocate for providers of cloud infrastructure in the debate about cloud services.
