Ontotext Software Company Received the Pitagoras Award
[ 09 Feb 2010 ]
Bulgarian software company Ontotext, part of Sirma Group, received the prestigious scientific award Pitagoras for “a company which has mastered new scientific research in the most successful way or provided specialized services for public benefit.” The awards are presented by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science to honor the most contributory scientists and bodies in Bulgaria in 11 categories. The annual prizes originated back in 2003.
“This is a great acknowledgement for all of us in Ontotext, for our efforts to prove that a small Bulgarian software company could participate in scientific research on a global scale, to develop software products and to successfully compete the leading companies worldwide”, the company manager Atanas Kiriakov stated.
Ontotext is a global leader in the area of semantic technology development. Its products are used by the major pharmaceutical and telecommunication companies, as well as by many organizations in the world in projects where the established technologies for data integration and analysis are not sufficiently effective. When receiving the award Mr. Kiriakov declared that the formation and successful development of Ontotext as an innovative company with an active scientific work is due to the big support of Zdravko Petrov and many other teachers form the Sofia High School of Mathematics, Kiril Simov and Galia Angelova from the Linguistic Modelling Department of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, as well as their partners and colleagues from Sirma Group.
“Not many software companies would take it seriously to create a NLP lab and could develop continuously the Sirma lab for software development and knowledge research (KR) and computer linguistic (CL/NLP). It takes courage for a small company to do this against the IT giants in Bulgaria” – Atanas Kiriakov added.
