Daticum data center adopted a free cooling system
[ 05 Jan 2010 ]
The Bulgarian data center Daticum adopted a new cooling system, based on the innovative “free cooling” technology, remarkable for its high energy efficiency. Daticum is the first data center in the region using the outer environment for cooling. The installation has begun in October 2009 and has finished successfully two weeks ago.
“Our ambition is to develop Daticum data center according to the lattest tendencies in the energy efficiency sphere and the protection of the environment. The new „free cooling” system Is part of the overall company policy and we are happy that after becoming the first Bulgarian data center, covering the Level 4 requirements of the TIA, we’re the first center in the region whit fully functionai innovative cooling technology “ – Rossen Marinov, Daticum CEO, points out.
The new system uses a fluid, which goes from the center to the outer area and cools from the local environment, after which it goes back. That way the natural advantages of the climate in Bulgaria, characterized by a large number of days with low temperatures, are used. An official research states that in 70% of the time, the outdoor temperatures are low enough to be used for cooling utilizing a free-cooling system. In winter hours this technology is used at a 100% and in the rest of the time the center works at mixed mode.
Daticum data center, a property of Sirma Group, was built in 2008 to meet the highest international grade for data centers, Tier 4. Daticum provides the necessary business services, to ensure the highest level of reliability. With Daticum, you will drastically reduce your IT cost in infrastructure, equipment, support, maintenance and energy cost. The data center consist of three server rooms able to provision over 100 server cabinets. The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) and the Committe of Regulation Commission (CRC) approved Daticum as the data center to store banking information systems and information systems issuing electronic signatures, digital certificates and personal data.
